Dementia of the Alzhimer¢¥s type:Basic and Clinical Aspects


Abstract
Dementia is a syndrome characterized by multiple impairments in cognitive function without impairment in consciousness. It is more common among the elderly than among other age groups but age-related factors that lead to dementia are unknown. Recently dementia has emerged as a major health challenge not only for clinician but also for society as a whole.
Most attention is properly directed to dementia of the Alzheimer¢¥s type (DAT) which is most commonly occuring dementia, accounting for approximately 75% of patients. This paper aims at reviewing recent progression in research works on the DAT from the basic and clinical points of view.
